ARTA Awards
We wish to thank the Edmonton Retired Teachers' Association and their president, Esther Oaks, for their $1000 donation to the U. of A. ARTA Award. We would like to challenge retired teachers in the areas of the U. of C. and the U. of L. to make similar contributions to these awards which we started in 1998, 1999 and 2000.

Retreat and Governance
From February 28th to March 3rd, most of ARTA's elected officers met in St. Paul for a retreat concentrating on the implementation of the new governance model for ARTA.
These meetings were sometimes as long as 10 hours a day and much was accomplished with the help of our facilitator, Barbara Pedersen. A strategic plan was developed for the next three years of ARTA's operations. As mentioned in the Spring issue, I will keep you informed about these developments.

CART Meeting
President Jack Fulwiler and I will be attending the Canadian Association of Retired Teachers' meeting in Ottawa at the CTF building on June 3rd and 4th, 2005. Delegates from all the provincial Retired Teachers' Associations meet to discuss areas of common concern so that the Executive Director of CART, Pierre Drouin, can lobby the Federal government.

Privacy Acts - Federal & Provincial
It has been our practice for quite a number of years to grant retiring teachers who are receiving an ATRF pension a complimentary membership for their first year in ARTA.
Unfortunately, the restrictive "privacy acts" prevent us from getting the names of potential retirees. Would members please tell any retiring colleagues and friends that they can get their complimentary memberships by simply calling our office at 447-9474 ext 474, or toll free (Alberta) 1-800-232-7208.
