Pension Issues in the Twenty First Century

ARTA's Pension Committee has prepared a study guide featuring the background history on teachers' pensions in Alberta and a detailed explanation of four major concerns:

1. Cost of Living Adjustment (COLA),
2. bridging,
3. rollbacks, and
4. the unfunded liability.

Each ARTA chapter has been asked to appoint a pension contact who would be prepared to present sections of this study guide to retired teachers, and those about to retire, so that everyone understands better the issues. Hopefully, with members being more knowledgeable, these issues can then be discussed with local politicians.

If you have not yet seen or heard from a pension contact in your ARTA branch, you should contact your branch president and request a session be planned for the members.

drawing. She would occasionally walk around to see each child's work.

As she got to one little girl who was working diligently, she asked what her drawing was.

The girl replied, "I'm drawing God."
The teacher paused and said, "But no one knows what God looks like."
Without missing a beat, or looking up from her drawing, the girl replied, "They will in a minute!"
