"To hell with the bell"

The twelfth annual "To hell with the bell" golf tournament kicked off on September 6, 2005 at Whispering Pines Golf and Country Club at Pine Lake. Fifty two male retired teachers from all over Central Alberta attended, a number that was down somewhat from last year but all were treated to excellent weather and a superbly manicured golf course.

The low gross winner was Lawrence Sidebottom from Red Deer (see photograph) with a net 63, followed by Larry Pizzey, Ron Albrecht and Dick Huddleston, all of Red Deer.

This year we were able to raise $2,300 for Prostate Cancer Research. This brings our total in the last four years to $8,300. Thanks to all the golfers who had a great time and were able to donate this amount. This kind of support is encouraging as we may be able, in some small way, to help find a cure for this disease.

Next year we will be holding our tournament at Pine Lake on the Tuesday after the Labour Day weekend in September. We encourage all male retired teachers to join us in this worthwhile cause and have a great time.

A special thanks to our major sponsors: Downtown Tim Hortons, Red Deer, Whispering Pines Golf and Country Club and Johnson Inc.. Thank you to all of our other sponsors who very generously donated enough prizes so that every golfer went home with something.
